Whether
Norwegian Dovetail, Scandinavian Scribe,
Piece-en-Piece, Post and Beam, or Timber
Frame each unique home built by Davidson
Log & Timber Artisans bears one common
mark: the Davidson lozenge. This diamond-shaped
carving represents the superior quality
of our materials and
craftsmanship and the meticulous
attention we give to every detail. It
symbolizes our commitment to the
artistic expression of our client's
distinctive vision, and carries with it
a pledge that the beautiful home we
build for them will be enjoyed for
generations to come. (Don't forget to
ask about our 100-year warranty.)
There are other unique details that have
come to signify a Davidson home as well.
Windows and doorways are framed using a
unique "buck" method. Stair cases are
hand hewn and marked by intricate
carvings and difficult turns.
Connections are made using specialized
joinery techniques, wooden pegs, or
and/or wedges made by hand. Unusually-shaped
logs are used in unique ways - sometimes
in prominent positions, other times
tucked away to be discovered by the
curious observer. And logs are so
perfectly scribed to fit together that
virtually no chinking is required.
While all of these design features are
beautiful to the eye, they are used to
serve an even higher purpose: enhanced
functionality. At Davidson, we take
pride in our commitment to historical
accuracy and have found that many of the
best methods for craftsmanship - those
that produced the longest-lasting
structures - were employed long ago.
Nevertheless, as a company that stays on
top of industry trends we are always
quick to apply modern techniques where
they surpass old ones. And finding a
balance between the two has meant that
we've been able to handcraft some of the
finest, most beautiful handcrafted homes
in Ontario.
